Coco Moon is the seventh studio album by American electronica project Owl City. It was released independently via Sky Harbor on March 24, 2023. The album was written and produced by Adam Young. The album is supported by three singles: "Kelly Time", "Adam, Check Please" and "Vitamin Sea". It is his first album in five years since his 2018 album Cinematic. On January 25, 2024, Young announced that a deluxe edition of Coco Moon would be released on March 22. The deluxe edition contained two new tracks: "Boston" and "Car Trouble", a new version of "Adam, Check Please", a live version of "Under The Circus Lights" and two instrumentals of "The Tornado" and "Dinosaur Park". He released "Boston" on February 9, a cover of the song by American rock band Augustana. On March 1, Owl City released the fifth single from the album, "Car Trouble". In support of the album, Young announced the To the Moon Tour that began in the fall of 2023 with support from Augustana. Owl City later announced a Japan leg of the tour which took place in February 2024. Another leg was added in the United States for March and April 2024.

On March 22, 2014, Adam first posted an audio clip from a demo with the name “Floppy Fish” to his Tumblr blog. However, the tag in the actual MP3 file has the title, “Trust Me”. Apart from the 30-second snippet, none of the original song has since surfaced. “Floppy Fish” has long been an unreleased song that many Owl City fans have wanted to hear the full version of. In a Facebook Q&A on July 2, 2015, a fan asked about the song as well as his cover of Nichole Nordeman’s song “Brave”. Adam replied, saying both songs were “locked in the vaults”. Many fans took this to mean that Adam wasn’t satisfied with the songs and had no intent to release the full version of either. Fast forward to the announcement of the Coco Moon Deluxe album on January 25, 2024. Along with teasing his cover of Augustana’s song “Boston”, he revealed the release date and tracklist of the deluxe edition bonus tracks. Many people theorized that “Car Trouble” could be the full version of “Floppy Fish”, because the first line in the demo is, “I’ve been driving all afternoon.” This, however, was purely wild speculation at the time, and nothing was confirmed yet. But it did lead the Owl City Discord server’s members to spam Owl City’s social accounts with requests to release “Floppy Fish” in full. Adam teasingly replied to one person’s comment, saying, “Never heard of it.”

Then, in February 2024, Adam began tweeting hints that “Floppy Fish” would be dropping in full, leading to more wild speculation among fans. First, there was a tweet posted on February 6, 2024, simply saying, “Relaxed, aquatic gill-bearing vertebrate”. Many fans took this to be a verbose rephrasing of the phrase “Floppy Fish”. On February 17, 2024, Adam tweeted a video with the caption, “Fish”, which had an extremely brief clip of a re-recorded version of the demo with the opening line, “I’ve been driving all afternoon”. While this didn’t confirm with absolute certainty that “Car Trouble” was “Floppy Fish”, many fans took it as a sign that it was. Finally, on February 20, 2024, Adam officially announced in an Instagram Reel that the next single would be, “Car Trouble”, due to be released on March 1, 2024. With an Instagram Reel teasing the song as well as a preview on the pre-save link, it has been confirmed that “Car Trouble” is a re-recording of the original “Floppy Fish” demo in full.
