Biography
Pen Cap Chew is an alternative rock group from Seville which came together in the mid 90s.Since then the group’s lineup has changed and experienced a fruitful evolution, partly due to the participation of the group’s members in other bands. But, above all, the musical maturity of these «Sevillanos» iis a result of their interest in other bands, other styles of music as well as their drive to have their music heard. In 2004, after recording two demos and touring extensively throughout Spain and Portugal, Daniel Romero (guitar and vocals), Ernesto Mesa (bass) and Pepe Benítez (percussion) started the second and definitive stage of the band. The climax of this stage is the launch of their first record in 2009. To do this Pen Cap Chew have joined forces with some outstanding talents of the world recording industry.
Paco Loco, who also recorded the second demo «Let it go», was entrusted with the recording. A well-known figure on the national musical scene for his work with bands such as Nacho Vegas, Sexie Sadie, Manta Ray or Gary Louris among others. Paco Loco was chosen for his simplicity, his workmanship, his honesty which together with the creativity, intuition and strength of the band have resulted in a stripped-down live sound, crude, simple and visceral. The mastering of the record was left in the hands of another important professional: George Marino of the New York Sterling Sound studio who left his mark on the work of artists as noteworthy as Metallica, Sepultura, Guns’n’Roses to name just a few. Pablo Cook, percussionist, session musician and producer, is a good friend who has collaborated on the record. His previous collaborations include Robbie Williams (with whom he wrote the song «Clean»), Madonna, Moby and Elástica. The multi-disciplinary artist, poet and creator, Soma y Luz , whose special vision was able to convey the personality of the group in visual terms, undertook the promotional photography for the first record. «Beatings» and «Monstruo» are the singles chosen by Pen Cap Chew to iniciate the promotional campaign of Spain and Portugal . The independent producer ImaKe Films have created images for the lyrics and rythms.
