feel the same way, instruments are incredible but vocals ruin it for me. funnily enough the other commenter mentioned saosin and erra and I really like them, just something about periphery's vocals specifically I guess

this is such an insane take cause I think the vocals are what really make them for me?? LOL

that's fascinating bc i personally think spencer is an all-timer vocalist, he's got an incredible range and i love his voice so much

I can definitely hear that he's talented, has a lot of control, good range and can sing in different styles. He's not a bad singer by any means. However, all of that is ruined by the omnipresent whiny nasal emo tone of his singing and screaming voice. I've heard him speak and I don't pick it up at all, so it's just the way he sings. No matter what or how he sings that ear grinding whiny tone is always there.

One of few prog metal bands that doesn't make me cringe. Periphery IV and V are fucking legendary LPs.

Crazy to me that I used to write this band off purely because I didn't like Spencer's voice. A few years can make a huge difference in how you feel. Dude's easily one of the greatest metal vocalists ever.

Yeah I'm not particularly a huge fan of that vocal style in general. But Spencer is objectively one hell of a vocalist, it's hard not to get goosebumps.

He's only gotten better with time, as well. When I first learned about Periphery it was after listening to a lot of Misha's Bulb stuff, and I had a very visceral reaction to Spencer's vocals on the first LP. Several years later I heard Blood Eagle by chance, and I was kind of blown away that it was the same band and same vocalist. Guy's got chops.

V is absolutely wonderful! It’s difficult for me to choose a favorite track, but as of this moment it has to be Wax Wings.

I think the only thing we can safely say about P:V is that Misha definitely played Hades and Returnal.

Finding this band real hard to get into outside the first album. In my opinion, everything about them is awesome except for the vocals, and it sucks that they don't have any official instrumental versions of their albums other than P1 (which for some reason vanished from streaming platforms) because I genuinely would prefer modern-day Chris Barnes to whatever Spongebob mimicry Spencer is doing after the debut.

Boy, it sure is a shame that this band never plays their hit song, "The Event", live on stage.

Its a retread of all their albums really. I got flamed on Youtube for saying that once tho because supposedly Crush is the most unique single piece of music theyve ever made and theres nothing like it. Supposedly.
