Philip Pullman is a contemporary writer living in Oxford, England. He is most famous for his His Dark Materials trilogy, first published between 1995 and 2000. The books – Northern Lights (published as The Golden Compass in the US), The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass - have been shortlisted for and won Pullman numerous awards, most famously the Whitbread Book of the Year Award in 2001. The Amber Spyglass was the first Children’s Book of the Year to win the overall award.
