Biography
Giuseppe "Pino" Placentile (born December 13th, 1977) was a Canadian musician best known for his song Wooden Girl. Pino had met Ethan Kath in high school, playing in multiple hardcore punk bands before forming an acoustic duo inspired by the likes of Neil Young and Leonard Cohen. Together, they spent multiple years writing and recording folk songs.
Placentile suddenly passed on June 13th, 2003 due to a brain aneurysm. He was described in a statement by his widow as "A beautiful old soul, sensitive and tender, with a passion for making music, dancing, walks through old Toronto neighbourhoods, used bookstores and vinyl records." Every release by Kath's most well-known band, Crystal Castles, is dedicated to him.
Wooden Girl was posthumously released on the Crystal Castles soundcloud page on the 10th anniversary of his passing. It was later sampled by American rapper XXXTentacion on his 2015 track Save Me, bringing later attention to the song.
