Narcissist is a scrapped project of Playboi Carti that was announced after he canceled Whole Lotta Red (Deluxe) in 2021. With little warning and no teasing beforehand, Playboi Carti took to Instagram to post an outfit of him dressed head to toe in layers of Balenciaga clothing and captioned it "NARCISSIST 09/13/21". This, however, did not happen.
Shortly after the supposed album drop, Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert were seen dressed in never-before-seen Narcissist clothing, which allegedly was released to the public by accident according to Carti, including a $5,000 biker helmet. After all of this, radio silence. Until, Kanye West and Playboi Carti were seen hanging out more and more. From February to May 2022, more information about this album started popping up. Including a collab tour between Kanye West and Playboi Carti, which was confirmed by Carti but fell short, as it never happened.
Multiple Opium affiliates and supposed insights of both Carti and Kanye West started hyping this project up, including a Kanye West fan page account owned by Arkangel, a visual journalist for Donda and Donda 2. In April 2022, an XXL interview with Playboi Carti confirmed his new album wouldn't be Narcissist, but instead be "Music". Contradicting the following claim, in May, an anonymous user posting behind-the-scenes, never-before-seen pictures of both Kanye and Carti together said quote, "i can confirm i've been in the studio with them multiple times while they have worked on the new album. It's a very experimental album with heavy rock elements and should be coming out in the next 2 months from what i've been told." July of 2022 rolled around, almost a full year since Narcissist was announced, and still no album came. This album was officially confirmed to be canceled on September 1st, 2022, when the Narcissist tour was renamed to the King Vamp tour (King Vamp being a song from his previous album Whole Lotta Red.) Soon after, Music would replace Narcissist, and then Music would be renamed to I Am Music. The final nail in the coffin for Narcissist.
