Biography

Based in Belgium, Psamim is an ensemble of accordion with strings that performs a musical blend of original tunes and klezmer classics. Psamim includes renowned singer Zahava Seewald and musicians Martin Weinberg (accordion), Renaud Lhonest (violin), and Joanna Samek (viola). Formed in 1992, the first distributed recording of Psamim came out in 1999 on the Tzadik label. This beautiful album, Abi Gezint!, consists of special instrumental arrangements except for three tunes that Seewald sings during. By this time, the original musicians in Psamim were joined by cellist Fabienne VanDenDriesche and bassist Walter Popeliers, with a guest appearance of percussionist Philippe de Jagere, and the violist had changed to Tobias Holtiegel.
