"Hailing from the new indie rock hotbed of Omaha, Race For Titles has generated a unique blend of swirling guitars, dreamy vocals, driving bass and impeccable percussion, but not without a subtle tip of the hat to their hometown peers.

When singer and guitarist James Massey and guitarist Zac Lorenzen jokingly challenged a driver to a 'race for titles' late one night, they didn't yet realize they were coming up with a band name. But the driving metaphor seems appropriate when listening to the band's music. The two guitars weave and twist like back roads that at once intertwine and then surprise you with sharp turns, and the dreamy overtones set against a punchy rhythm section evoke thoughts of solitary highway driving and an open sky.

What started out a year and a half ago as casual weekend writing sessions between Massey, formerly of Red Menace, and Lorenzen developed into songs that demanded their full attention. After experimenting with an array of local musicians, bassist Ryan McLaughlin joined the band, and a Roland R8 drum machine filled out the line-up. 'We really didn't know how long it would take to find the right drummer,' explains Massey, 'so I just decided to keep the momentum going and bought the R8.' The right drummer did come along when, after stints with The Faint and Commander Venus, Matt Bowen was added. The four started writing as a group, and their old drummer was sold on eBay.

After releasing a split 7" with Neva Dinova and appearing on the compilation "NE vs. NC", Race For Titles recently released their self-titled debut with Redemption Records. This much anticipated full length will be supported by a series of tours starting with upcoming dates with fellow Omaha scenesters, Cursive."
