The last song on Hail to the Thief. Thom Yorke’s ill-boding lyrics are matched by Jonny Greenwood’s mellifluous music, creating a lush dissonance. Of note is the impressive spoken word performance by Yorke. It marks the first time he’s used such a style.
Wolf at the Door continues the album’s fable inspired motifs by reimagining the quintessential fairy tale villain: The Wolf as the ruthless personification of the everyday Capitalist struggle.
Thom Yorke remarked on the tone of the song, noting its placement as the final track as it ends the album on a frustrated tragic note,
"This is pretty bitter stuff. All this stuff about ‘cold wives and mistresses, cold wives and Sunday papers, city boys in first class’. Bloody hell. It’s pretty serious. Ha, ha. It’s just very angry."
Alternative Title: “A Wolf at the Door (It Girl. Rag Doll.)”
