Rafael Moreira is a Brazilian-born guitarist and vocalist who is best known as the lead guitarist in the House Band for the hit CBS series, Rock Star. In addition to these performances, Rafael was invited to record on the debut project for the group Shapes, produced by Jimmy Haslip, where he performed with two legendary Brazilian artists: drummer Airto Moreira and singer Flora Purim. While performing with Pink, Rafael has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Saturday Night Live, The American Music Awards, The Late Show with David Letterman, Good Morning America, Live with Regis and Kelly, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, MTV Video Music Awards in both the U.S. and Europe, English and German Top of the Pops and the MTV/VH-1 Fashion Awards. He has also performed with Christina Aguilera at Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall and appeared on television shows including Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show, The MTV Awards, The Essence Awards, The ALMA Awards, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, VH-1's Men Strike Back and many others. Rafael and the House Band toured the United States with Paul Stanley (from KISS) in October/November 2006 as well as Australia in April 2007.
When he's not performing with other groups, Rafael has his own band - Magnetico. For information/updates on Magnetico you can go to the band's website (Magnetico). "Magnetico is a rock power trio and we always make sure the songs come first, but as you mentioned, we like stretching ourselves musically, either with really heavy grooves or free form solos. As for the writing, I basically write all of
the music. I write most of the lyrics myself and collaborate with friends on others."
Rafael released an instrumental album in 2005. "Acid Guitar" features Joey K. on Drums, Corey McCormick on Bass and other guests. The album is a blend of Jazz/Rock with Brazilian undertones-peppered with a ton of shredding guitar solos. Produced by Rafael Moreira and mixed by Grammy Award Winner Antonio "Moogie" Canazio. You can listen to the tracks or buy the CD at CD Baby.
Rafael states that his mother was a major influence. He grew up listening to the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Deep Purple and many others. Another major influence is John Sykes (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake) as well as Ace Frehley and KISS. While at Musicians Institute he was known among his class mates as being a mini Zakk Wylde for his heavy influence from Zakk at that time in his life. He also loves jazz and fusion and enjoys improvising in any form of music.
