Wiki
The 1999 Red Hot Chili Peppers album Californication received criticism upon release for "excessive compression and distortion" in its digital mastering. It was labeled by Stylus magazine as a victim of the "Loudness War", to an extent that "even non-audiophile consumers complained about it".
Californication Unmastered is a bootleg album which was leaked from within Warner Brothers. It was an early, unmastered version which was presented to the band and the label. As well as being mixed to a more appropriate sound level, the album features several differences from the final commercial release. The track order is vastly different, and there are four tracks which did not make the final cut: Fat Dance, How Strong, Gong Li, and an alternate version of Road Trippin' without strings. Other differences can be noted in the chorus to Around The World, and the ending of Easily.
