1. reina is a Tokyo-based dancer and R&B artist from a creative collective called w.a.u. She was influenced by various black music from her childhood, especially 90's hip-hop/R&B such as ATCQ, Mobb Deep, and Soulquarians. She is a rare R&B singer in Japan who has a unique, rich voice but relaxed and with yet distinctive quality, and also the ability to rap at times. Even before releasing her own songs, she had already performed with various artists such as Takuya Kuroda, Salasa, VivaOla, Wez Atlas, and other leading artists in w.a.u.'s band sets. Her second single, "Do The Thing," was played by many DJs both in Japan and abroad as a club banger. The fourth single, "Drafts", has been listed on many prominent playlists on streaming services. Her songs which encompass all aspects of black music with a modern interpretation of R&B, have made her a remarkable artist to watch. Blessed with a distinctive, rich voice and having grown up as a dancer listening to 90’s hip-hop and R&B, reina is at the forefront of the nascent Japanese alternative R&B/neo-soul scene, rapidly attracting fans across all ages and cultures.
