Nah, doesn't matter, but calling a band with 65k monthly listeners on Spotify underground is a bit weird for me, because if they are underground, what is a band with 2k listeners on Spotify? Ultra underground? :) Sure, they're "underground" for non metal listeners, but for a metal band they are quite big. :)

Friend you mentioned bands that've got 2k listeners but forgot about the Metallicas that've got 2 trillion listeners and all the Slayers with 200 billion each of those. Which is why I reiterate that they're not exactly mainstream and are rather somewhere on the fence in terms of popularity and for me would still be much closer to the side of underground on that debatable patch.

Their peak was 2009-2012 (Existence, Chaos, and Teratogenesis), plus the anomaly of The Outer Ones, but they're still putting out good music, just not at that same level. I wish they'd go back to incorporating more of that thrashy sound, but it only shows up on a few recent songs like Communion and Of Unworldly Origin

Could not agree more. I still listen to them from time to time, but nowadays they're pretty standard, with them moving more and more into dm over the last decade, Existence was my favorite, and in my opinion, one of the greatest "modern" tech thrash records of all time. They're still good, they just don't excite me much anymore.

The debut was also solid, needs to be said because it commonly gets overlooked. I was hooked right from the first album and have been a big fan ever since. That era of the band you've mentioned is some of the most varied, cool and experimental as far as the range/ types of songs they produced back then. After that they really got serious about making music that is extreme and fast at the same time and the output got a lot more attitude and soloing got a bit taken down, in quantity, not quality. I didn't like the self-titled much, Deathless had some passable songs, but I'll say with much conviction that you're wrong about the next 2 albums. At first even I couldn't get into The Outer Ones much but it is easily one of their best and most extreme albums. If Existence Is.. can be called one of their best from their early era then Outer.. would be one of their best from the current one. Great Is.. is also an awesome album albeit monotonous but still one of their most unique.

Netherheaven was ok imo. Solos weren't that tasty and the riffs were pretty bland compared to literally anything else they've released. Vocals also sounded like dave was trying too hard to do the Trevor BDM growls.

This is my favorite band of all time lol. Love everything about them. Deathless, The outer ones, teratogenesis, chaos of forms, existence is futile, all amazing albums. Spurn the outstretched hand, labryinth of eyes, cradle robber, the outer ones, and deathonomics are my fav songs.

I think theyve definitely matured over the years, and I believe every album they release is an improvement. As much as I love the older albums, their songwriting is lacking on a lot of songs, whereas their newer albums are more consistent, and have less filler. Im excited to see what they have next because I have no doubts that whatever they release will be better than their previous.

I'm replying to an old thread but I was wrong for once. New album was kinda meh. Serious lack of good riffs, songwriting was passable, and I feel like David was trying to emulate trevor's vocals rather than doing his own style. Also without Dan's songwriting and vocals, man this record falls a bit flat. I give it a 6/10 whereas their second worst release "Empire Of the Obscene" would be a 7/10 in my book.

The Outer Ones is probably the best album I've heard this year. Fucking amazing!

Blood Atonement is legit one of the best songs I've ever heard. The solo is beyond beautiful, it's just something else...

If I read it right, they formed in 2000 and waited until 2008 to release material? This would explain why they seem so mature from the first record, but it is also very strange to think about it. Imagine, for example, Metallica starting in 1981 and waiting until 1989 to release Kill 'Em All, lol!

I love Existence is Futile. Their best album to me. I'm somewhat flabbergasted that it's not one of the 4 recently popular albums.

I agree it is great. But it also *is* their most popular album by ~5,000 listeners.

After many listens I changed my mind about The Outer Ones. It's a good record, not their best but it's a good effort, definitely above the average of the band. Still, I don't really get these lovecraftian vibes, sounds like classic Revocation to me, maybe a bit darker and slower.

The Outer Ones sounds more monotonous and more like tdm comparing to their earlier releases

after all good comments for the new album i decided to listen again and then remember.(i remember now) there are really so much unneccessary solos which add nothing to solo guitar world. except solos not bad. and to me not their best because im really sick of waiting of solos to end and alienate from the song i listen (where was i)

Don't get me wrong, they're in the top 20 of my charts, but to me this band is sounding monotonous more and more with every release since Chaos of Forms including the new album and excluding Deathless, which is kind of a bummer given how revolutionary this band has been in the metal scene. I'll be interested in them for life but for a while now some of their tunes aren't doing much for me.

Same for me. I don't understand how they're getting so much praise on every release even after some obvious ups and downs in their discography. But still, I'm not bothered by it, at least untill the music doesn't get worse.

I actually don't agree. I thought the self-titled and Great Is Our Sin were pretty damn dull, but Deathless and this one are really fucking engaging. I can understand your perspective in general but for me, The Outer Ones is consistently exciting and engaging.
