Atmosphärisch dicht, harmonisch bis atonal, variantenreich, von pianissimo possibile bis fortissimo forte - das akustische Spektrum und die musikalische Vielfalt des Geräusch- und Tonensembles rhein begeistert nicht nur den, der an elektronischen Soundexperimenten interessiert ist.
rhein ist die Weiterentwicklung des Elektronikprojekts fern von Jürgen Krause (Düsseldorf) und Johannes Rix (Köln). Die beiden veröffentlichten 2006 ihr erstes Album „The First Day“ auf dem Internet-Label Autoplate und sorgten mit ihren Kompositionen für positive Resonanz bei Kritikern und Publikum.
2009 erweiterte sich das Duo um den Düsseldorfer Gitarristen und Elektroniker Peter Witt (aka Onroda und krautelectronics) und ging gemeinsam weiter auf die Suche nach neuen Klängen und Stimmungen, nun angereichert mit den elektronisch modulierten Sounds einer E-Gitarre. In den zumeist hierarchiefreien Strukturen aus analog und digital generierten Klängen bauen sich harmonische Spannungen auf, die immer wieder unvorhersehbar gelöst werden. Zeit wird vage bis deutlich gedehnt und in filigrane bis brutale Klangräume transformiert. Nicht zufällig erinnern rheins akustische Collagen an die Klänge des frühen Krautrocks, dabei gehen sie über das Soundspektrum jener Vorbilder deutlich hinaus. „A quiet strange redefinition of ambient“ hat das ein Kritiker nach einem Auftritt der Band im Düsseldorfer Elektronik-Club Salon des Amateur genannt.
Im Juni 2018 erschien rheins erstes Album „takes“, im Oktober 2020 das zweite Album „spiel“ sowie die Kassetten-Veröffentlichung „300_1“.

rhein is the further development of the electronic project fern from Jürgen Krause (Düsseldorf) and Johannes Rix (Cologne). Both musicians released their first album "The First Day" on the internet label Autoplate in 2006, and their compositions were well received by critics and the public alike.
In 2009, the duo expanded to include the Düsseldorf guitarist and electronics engineer Peter Witt (aka Onroda and krautelectronics) and together they continued their search for new sounds and moods, now enriched with the electronically modulated sounds of an electric guitar. In the mostly non-hierarchical structures of analogue and digitally generated sounds, harmonic tensions build up, which are always solved unpredictably. Time is stretched vaguely to clearly and transformed into filigree to brutal sound spaces. It is no coincidence that rhein's acoustic collages are reminiscent of the sounds of early Krautrock, but they clearly go beyond the sound spectrum of those models. "A quiet strange redefinition of ambient" is what one critic called it after a performance of the band in the Düsseldorf electronic club Salon des Amateur.
In June 2018 rhein's first album "takes" was released, in October 2020 the second album "spiel" and the cassette release "300_1".
