His old stuff is amazing. Very poetic and melodic. His newer stuff is harder for me to get into personally, but I can respect it. Fair enough.

Czech out the sets he's doing in Leeds this April at the Wharf Chambers. It'll be absolutely ace.

It's always so impressive how Youngs can release so many albums and yet they almost always have their own unique sound and style. He's just so talented and versatile.

I gotta say, he's not a fantastic guitarist nor does he have a dynamic voice. But he is someone i look up to and i'd be lying if i said he didn't influence me to pick up a guitar myself.

Richard Youngs is releasing vinyl-only "Long White Cloud" LP on Grapefruit Record Club in August. Subscription only, limited to 300 lps. Youngs calls it "a New Zealand Record" full of "meditations on native birdsong, Maori place names, the pacific ocean, satellite navigation, and clutch failure in Wanaka” based on his travels there last year. It is all that and more. Existing fans know that Richard moves effortlessly album-to-album from some of the most emotionally compelling to repetitively transfixing to sonically aggressive compositions anyone is likely to create. This is one of the most gorgeous albums of his twenty-plus-year career. Read more about it and subscribe to get it at grapefruitrecordclub.com. Other artists part of this year's 4xLP subscription include Lambchop (a collection of rare, early songs), L. Eugene Methe, and 200 Years (Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance & Elisa Ambrogia of Magik Markers). Spread the word Youngs fans!

I have to disagree about Inceptor. It's the dispiriting sound of a guy banging his head into a wall for 30 minutes and lacks the wit, lyricism and visionary nature of the majority of his work. Depressing.

"his recent high point must be his bass playing duties in concert with Jandek." lol

I second anarchodandyist and add that RY's Alan Moore reference about keeping the fuckers out was no doubt lost on them hipsters.

Pretty amazed watching him in Edinburgh—he was deliberately baiting the twatty adolescent hipster crowd. I approve.
