Biography

Rosie Catalano is a disarming chanteuse whose lyrics balance bittersweet nostalgia with playful humour to create vivid, cinematic songs.

A founding member of the band The Rouge Balloon, Catalano embarked on a solo career following her 2009 collaboration with Little Birdy ("Where Did I Go Wrong?") and has recently been announced as finalist for the 2011 APRA Professional Development Award.. Armed with her guitar, Catalano is an enchanting performer both on stage and in the studio, and is soon to release her debut self-titled EP, produced by Miss Little’s Sarah McCallum and featuring a guest performance by The Rescue Ship's Brian Campaeu.

A compulsive raconteur, Catalano came to music through her writing. Her evocative, vignette-style prose has been published in the anthology Nine Tenths Below (Halstead Press, 2005), and the adventurous illustrated novel, Mitsu: The Dark Witch and The Dream Wilderness (Trafford, 2010). Catalano nurtures cross-media relationships through her involvement in the Kino international film movement and her self-maintained website, which offers royalty-free use of specific songs to filmmakers under the creative commons license.

Described as vivid, considered, delicate and quietly hilarious, Catalano’s works capture the quirky and honest notes in her world.
