Biography
There are more than one artists with the name Ryan Brown.
(1) Ryan Brown is the youngest sibling in the classical piano group The 5 Browns. He has recorded solo, duet (with his older brother Gregory Brown) and ensemble pieces (with the rest of his siblings) for all of their albums. www.the5browns.com
(2) Ryan Brown: Composer-performer RYAN BROWN draws heavily on his omnivorous musical tastes and experience as an electric guitarist and bassist in numerous rock, jazz, and experimental groups and bands. Ryan’s compositions have been performed by many notable groups, performers, and presenters, including Bang on a Can All-Stars Lisa Moore and Mark Stewart, the Robin Cox Ensemble, the BluePrint Project, and the MATA Festival. Radio features include NPR’s "Forum with Michael Krasney" and Richard Friedman’s "Music from Other Minds." He has also been a featured composer in the online new music journal Sequenza21. Ryan has participated in the Bang on a Can Summer Institute and the Oregon Bach Festival Composer’s Symposium. In 2007 Parisian record label trAce released "Banksy" for guitar ensemble on the album "Post-Minimalism." He was recently awarded an Emerging Composer Award by the Gerbode Foundation and an ASCAP Young Composer Award. Upcoming premieres and commissions include music for Sqwonk and the Paul Dresher Electro-Acoustic Band. In 2006 Ryan co-founded the Switchboard Music Festival (www.switchboardmusic.com), an 8-hour music marathon bringing together composers and performers who challenge the boundaries of traditional music genres. He is also a founding member of the rock chamber group OOGOG, whose music combines the complexity of notated compositions with the visceral impact and wild improvisation of rock and jazz. Ryan is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and California State University, Long Beach. His teachers have included Dan Becker, Robin Cox, Martin Herman, and Bruce Miller.
