Biography
SEYRA is a band that promises to enchant each and every discerning listener with their own brand of dreamy indie-pop music. Utilising acoustic instrumentation, they are determined to realize and deliver their experimental vision of pop to the world at large. The Singaporean multi-ethnic quartet successfully blends emotional lyricism with layered guitar melodies, soaring hooks, and a distinctive, ethereal voice. Not only does SEYRA’s music reflect the yearning for romantic escapism by an urban generation, it also offers an intimate glimpse into one's own dreams and memories, and an introspective re-examining of past relationships.
Helmed by soulful vocalist Sarah Ismail—who has been compared to the likes of Feist, Cheer Chen and Regina Spektor—the band includes guitarist Khidir Osman, bassist Rupak George and percussionist Zack He.
Over the course of just a year and half, Seyra has gone from being a singer-songwriter’s bedroom recording project to a full-fledged band. Gigging extensively, they have performed alongside a string of international acts—Yuna (MY), Gabriel Lynch (AU), Noughts & Exes (HK) amongst others. They have been featured in magazines such as Timeout Singapore, Juice and hailed by Singapore’s TODAY Newspaper as one of the “Acts to watch out for in 2012”.
