Schachner grew up near Philadelphia and began playing piano at age five, later learning violin, viola, and cello. She played music both with her family and in school orchestras and jazz bands.
She attended the Berklee College of Music and later moved to Los Angeles. There, she began collaborating with composer Brian Tyler, initially working on film scores before moving into video game music. Her first project with Tyler was on "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3," where she started to integrate synthesizers alongside string instruments.
In 2016, Schachner's song "Lens" was used without permission by Ted Cruz's presidential campaign. Schachner, the performer, and a licensing firm filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the campaign.
Schachner contributed to the Cassini Finale Music Project, which commemorated the Cassini mission to Saturn.
Known for combining multi-instrumental performance with modular synthesizer programming, Schachner has composed for major video game titles including the "Call of Duty" and "Assassin's Creed" series. Her work on "Assassin's Creed Unity" was nominated for Best Original Video Game Score by the International Film Music Critics Association. Her theme "Rather Death Than Slavery" was featured in the trailer for the fifth season of HBO's "Game of Thrones." She also contributed additional music to "Far Cry 3" and "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag," the latter receiving a nomination for the 2014 BAFTA Award for Best Original Music.
In addition to video games, Schachner has composed music for films, trailers, commercials, and television. She has worked extensively with Brian Tyler on films including "Iron Man 3," "The Expendables 2," "Now You See Me," and "John Dies At The End," as well as video games such as "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag," "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3," "Far Cry 3," "Need For Speed: The Run," and "Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel." Schachner made her solo film composition debut with the 2015 movie "The Lazarus Effect."
