Biography
To her fans she is known as the “Bollywood Chutney Queen”, But to those who know her personally, Savita Singh is the last of three siblings, a proud mother and dog lover who has dedicated her life to music and family.
The soft-spoken Savita began singing at the age of eight and was inspired by her father to learn and render traditional Hindi love songs at schools, temples and homes.
After years of stage shows with the biggest T&T bands and artistes, Savita won the regionally acclaimed “Emerging Voices” song competition in Guyana in 2017. The “O Mere Sona Re” singer has performed in 15 countries across four continents and claims to be the first chutney artiste to perform in Fiji.
Savita is known for engaging performances and costume changes. Her repertoire includes original compositions, among them the lyrically powerful “Words”, which speaks to social order and promoting fairness, confidence and self-esteem among people. This recent hit was a collaborative offering between Savita and Orange Sky’s Nigel Rojas.
Even though she is always on the go, Savita knows the importance of giving back. She always makes time to contribute to social, sporting and cultural organisations, and although she supports several charitable causes across the country and the Caribbean, Savita’s passion is motivating girls and young women to reach for their goals and reject all forms of oppression.
