Biography
Sayso was formed in New York City in 1984, after former Los Microwaves drummer Todd Rosa and former Vietnam and Method Actors singer/saxophonist Stan Satin met at a Manhattan party, both looking to start new bands. The two hit it off immediately, so with Todd's bassist friend Len Mayer and guitarist Charles Croft, Sayso was established with a clear vision: LAY DOWN THE FUNKY POP! Multi-percussionist John Stratton was added to the roster, and Sayso crystallized their brand of rhythm-heavy dance rock with funk, Latin, reggae and world beat flavors.
Playing Danceteria, Peppermint Lounge, and other hip Manhattan clubs of the 80's, Sayso stirred up the funky fun popular at the time with MTV bands such as INXS, The Fixx, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. They recorded with R.E.M. and Hibtone producer Jonny Hibbert at Noise New York, and Swedish producer Goran Andersen at Intergalactic Studios, yielding several self-produced cassette EP's of their hook-laden music to much excitement around the Big Apple.
In 1986, Georgia bassist Robert Warren (Wee Wee Pole, Go Van Go, the Fleshtones) joined Sayso and even more funk ensued as well as more self-produced recordings. By 1987, without a record deal, Sayso called it quits, the members going on to other various projects. Sadly, in 2010, drummer Todd Rosa died, so to add to the sonic memorial of Todd's drumming legacy, the Sayso tapes were dusted off, remastered, and collected together in one concise LP length, ten song album, simply titled: Sayso.
