Schooner is band that plays ramshackle pop and experiments with simple song structures from their home in Durham, NC. The line-up includes Reid Johnson (songwriter, vocals, guitar), Nick Jaeger (bass, vocals), and Joshua Carpenter (drums), but has included a rotating cast of musicians on past releases. They have released three recordings under Pox World Empire based in Durham, NC; You Forget About Your Heart, the unconventional (Pox's collaborative 3 x 4 release), and Rocky P. EP, as well as appearing on Pox's Compulation 1 sampler. Their second full length Hold on Too Tight was released by 54º40' or Fight!, and was followed up with the EP "Duck Kee Sessions," which can be found exclusively on Cytunes.org, with all of the proceeds going to cancer research. Schooner's new LP "Neighborhood Veins," will be released on September 24, 2013 by PotLuck.

Schooner's delightfully experimental pop-rock earns the intimidating e-word not by going off on wild tangents but by augmenting perfectly intuitive song structures with unexpected, though balanced textures.
-Corbie Hill, INDY Weekly (NC)

Blending sweet boy-girl vocals, some '50s doo-wop and '60s baroque pop influences (not heavy, but there) with the college rock skronk of their hometown in the '90s and some timeless power-pop hookery, the five-piece didn't disappoint…
-Frank Yang, Chromewaves (review of Pop Montreal show)

…stories of bruised women and cynical men around chugging, '60s-inspired hooks and melodies so beautiful that they are incongruous with the stark sadness of their lyrics…
-Rebecca Raber, CMJ

Sonically, lyrically and structurally, Schooner supplies a perfect mix of apathy and anguish to these songs, and there's no better conduit for such than the voice of Reid Johnson.
-Grayson Currin, INDY Weekly (NC)

(Note: this "Schooner" is not to be confused with the Montreal band of the same name.)
