Propagandhi and Shai Hulud are very different bands. But listening to Shai Hulud - Reach Beyond The Sun album, followed by Propagandhi - Failed States, shows some killer similarities.

Misanthropy Pure is amazing. I wish Reach Beyond The Sun had more of that production style, as its a little hard for me to get into. The remixes on the old albums are excellent.

Hmm, I suppose sludge can count as hardcore since both share roots in punk. Neurosis is certainly something, will look into the rest.

Yes, they truly are. I had the great pleasure of seeing Shai Hulud live in 2004. With Geert!

There aren't many bands that get me fucking enraged and raise my spirits simultaneously but god damn Shai Hulud is one of them.

Apparently they always credit backing vocals as "The Fremen warriors"...speaking as someone who had his life changed by Dune, that's awesome!

Misanthropy Pure is fucking amazing! This and Vision of Disorder kick Hatebreed's ass, glad I looked into better hardcore.

Man, this new album has been growing on me immensely. A Human Failing is an instant classic and the rest of the album doesn't fall short either. It's cool to see a band establish a signature sound and stick around for as long as they do. When I started listening to Hardcore these guys were around and they still put out great albums. I don't listen to much Hardcore these days anymore, but Shai Hulud is an exception.

why is everyone listening to such shity bands like Asking Alexandria? Shai Hulud is more technical, the don't care about this whole commercial shit AND every song sound's different. thats the spirit of true Hardcore :)

I love those first three Shai Hulud albums, every album is different, accompanied by thoughtful/deep lyrics. I love "Hearts once Nourished..." for it's old school hardcore anthems and "Blood ill-tempered" for it's melodic and technical moments and "Mysanthropy Pure" for being the most progressive and heavy out of the bunch. That being said "Reach Beyond The Sun" has lived up to the Shai Hulud name. I feel lyrically Matt Fox has reached a new level, while the music takes influence not only from the previous three but all genres of music. It's gonna be hard to top this.
