Biography
Shaun Morgan Welgemoed (born December 21, 1978) is a South African musician, known as the lead singer of the post-grunge band Seether, formerly known as Saron Gas.
Early life
Morgan was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Morgan's father's side of the family was English while his mother's side was not. Morgan picked up the guitar after hearing the Nirvana album Nevermind and first learned the song "Polly".
Musical style and influence
Critics frequently accuse Morgan of intentionally trying to sound too much like Kurt Cobain, and it's likely due to Cobain's influence on him as a musician. Seether covers of Nirvana tracks including "Something in the Way" and "You Know You're Right". Also, Morgan has dyed-red hair, similar to Kurt Cobain's in the "Come as You Are" video and his first appearance on Saturday Night Live. He sounds at times quite similar to the The Doors' infamous but talented vocalist Jim Morrison. This is seen nowhere more remarkably than in the bonus track "Kom Saam met My" (Come With Me), spoken in his native tongue (Afrikaans), on Karma and Effect, the band's third album under their current name.
Collaborations
* Broken featuring Amy Lee (2004). The song was originally recorded with just Morgan, but was covered with then-girlfriend Amy Lee for the 2004 film The Punisher and featured on the Seether album Disclaimer II
* Art of Dying featuring Shaun Morgan - "Die Trying" (2008)
Death of brother Eugene "Genie" Welgemoed

I'm sure many of you have been hearing some rumors about Eugene. Unfortunately these rumors are true. Eugene passed away early Monday morning the 13th of August. As you might have seen we have cancelled a few shows to allow Shaun and the rest of us to come to terms with this tragic loss. Genie was an awesome human being, the type of person you want to be around. He never failed to put a smile on the face of all who he met and left a lasting impression on all whose lives he touched. I know I speak for everyone who knew Eugene when I say that he will be sorely missed. We all love you bro. Rest in peace -Dale
