Biography
She’s Only Sixteen is a Filipino rock band currently consisting of high school friends, Roberto Seña (vocals/rhythm guitar), Andrew Panopio (lead guitar), Anjo Silvoza, and King Puentespina (drums) and former member Kevin Santos on drums.
The band signed to Universal Records Philippines in 2012 and released their self-titled EP in the same year, which was praised for its fresh sound, compared to the likes of the Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes. However, their debut album was delayed for 5 years as their label tampered over creative control.
The album, Whatever That Was, was finally released in 2017 under indie label Party Bear Records, the album was acclaimed for having more mature takes on “working on relationships, being in one, surviving heartbreak, hanging on,” as well as existential themes of, “loneliness, death and being alive" according to Scout Magazine. The band would release the "The Other Side" EP in 2020, which saw the band take on a creatively different sound unlike their previous discography.
When asked about their style, the band described themselves as:
“She’s Only Sixteen is a mix of rock, pop, dance, folk, ear-grabbing hooks, good taste, bad jokes, alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, debauchery, kalandian (flirtatiousness), deep commentary on love and life, and a load of class.”
