When Sheyana Wijesingha was born London was swinging. Jimi Hendrix and Cream were rocking and Led Zepplin were championing an infectious mix of rock and blues. But among this mix, pop and folk were just as popular. The musical era she was born into has left a profound mark on the singer-songwriter.
Boasting a velvety voice with an infusion of blues, folk, rock and whisky, respected Tasmanian artist 'Sheyana', has released her long-awaited second EP – “Sweet Honesty”, following her 2003 debut release, “Firehorse”, with a new dynamic EP full of impassioned acoustic ballads. The EP includes the single ‘Two Birds’ which has already received national airplay.
Both albums are a testament to her influence and the talent she gathers around her. And that talent has not gone unrecognized – Sheyana has supported some of Australia’s most respected musicians including Renee Geyer, Diesel, The Angels, Ian Moss and Bill Chambers.
Featuring on "Bloomers: - Australian Women Singer/Songwriter compilation CD" and "Apple Slice compilation CD of Tasmanian Original Artists", 'Sheyana' also made it to the finals of the ABC’s Fresh Air Songwriting Competition with her song 'Two Birds" which is the single that recently came 2nd in the Blues and Roots category for OzSong International Songwriting Competition.
‘Two Birds’ was recorded in Penguin Tasmania, and features Sheyana, co-producing with well known local guitarist, Scott Mainwaring.
The pair are currently performing as an acoustic duo at venues and festivals in Australia.
This exciting Tasmanian Duo with their creamy guitars and chocolate vocals have shared the stage with some of Australia's finest acts during their musical partnership. Together they captivate an audience with their honest, soulfelt, stomping union of well crafted originals.
Sheyana performs solo, and also as a four-piece outfit. The bands powerful and poetic, “rock n roots" style, bring to life Sheyana's music, showcasing her songwriting skills and vocal talents
