Shimi Tavori (In Hebrew: שימי תבורי), born Sheemshon Tawili (שמשון טווילי) on February 9, 1953, is an Israeli singer and one of the most influential figures in Mizrahi music and Israeli pop.
Born in Ness Ziona, Israel, to a Yemenite Jewish family, he was the youngest of seven siblings. Tavori began his career performing in clubs and weddings before achieving national fame in the 1970s. His breakthrough came with the song "Avati’ach" (אבטיח), marking the start of a successful career spanning over five decades.
While primarily recognized for his contributions to Mizrahi music, Tavori's style blends influences from Middle Eastern melodies and Mediterranean music with elements of French pop and Italian pop, drawing inspiration from the Sanremo Music Festival. His smooth vocals and emotional delivery have established him as a household name in Israel.
Tavori has influenced generations of artists, including his son, Ben El Tavori, a pop sensation in Israel. Despite career fluctuations, he continues to be regarded as an icon of Israeli culture.
