Biography
Composing since the age of 8, I’ve had a lifetime love affair with music. Starting with lessons in both classical piano and drums at a very young age, I quickly grew to appreciate music in all forms and styles. I spent a lot of my spare time fooling around with my own simple songs, usually when I was supposed to be practicing for my lessons…
The first year of high school in eastern Toronto I found myself immersed in urban music and exploring the many forms of hip hop. In 2001, I started to play with loops, joined an online community called Acidplanet.com and began composing pieces spanning all of the genres I was listening to at the time; trance, drum and bass, ambient and atmospheric stuff, IDM, various forms of breakbeat, and hip hop.
Through blending my love of classical and jazz music with my new-found passion for urban and electronica music, I started to develop my own style; and by 17, I had a library of 70 works (of questionable quality) and was seriously considering music as a career.
A placement at Toronto’s MCS Recording Studios introduced me to the precise art of audio engineering and led to the building of my own little studio. I began to work with friends and artists around me, getting as much experience as possible and learning and growing as an artist, a producer and an audio engineer. For reasons beyond my control I was not able to continue my formal engineering eduction after high school; but taking a relaxed attitude to the progression of my music, and the music I was a part of through other musicians, I sat back and contented myself with just enjoying the whole experience.
To this day, I’m still enjoying the experience. At 22, with a long list of compositions in the hundreds, and involved in artistic pursuits of all flavours, from photography to illustration and design; I’m excited to see what the future holds…
