Biography

Sink The Bismark are many things. They are first and foremost a family that uses their music to advocate crucial ideals such as community, hard work and perseverance, and these shine through in their work. The bands musical roots run deep in St. Louis and they have always strived to promote they DIY mentality each member has obtained after more than a decade in the scene. Most importantly, Sink The Bismark works relentlessly to fill every note of every song with passion, energy and heart.

Sink The Bismark formed in early 2007 and solidified their lineup by years end. The original version of the band was comprised of Matt Brennecke (Guitar), Mike Kostecki (Bass/Vocals), Andy Binder (Guitar/Vocals), and Jeff Tiller (Drums). After creating some demos, the band recorded 12 songs that would make up their self-released debut record titled A Midwestern Classic. Classic was a raw snapshot of the bands folk-tinged punk rock songs about everything from young love to drinking. They would use these songs as a platform to play local shows in and around St. Louis and make a name for themselves throughout 2009 by sharing the stage with bands like New Found Glory, Lucero, Cobra Skulls and The Menzingers among others.

Flash forward to 2010, the band was gaining momentum with each performance and their general outlook looked promising. The band were poised to make an effort to become a serious full time touring act until Tiller, a founding member and integral piece to the band's puzzle, informed the other members he had enlisted in the navy. Tillers departure was an huge blow to the band both musically and personally, and the remaining members were unsure if they could continue. Enter Calvin Simmons. A casual acquaintance of the band, Simmons and his relatively unknown drumming resume left some doubt that he could fill Tiller's shoes. This doubt was erased after one jam session and the band promptly welcomed Simmons into the family.

With Simmons breathing new creative life their music, the new lineup wrote a handful of songs in a matter of weeks and decided to go into the studio. Originally planning on recording an EP, the band decided to rerecord select songs off of Classic and make a full length release with up and coming engineer and friend Matt Amelung (Story of The Year, The Fuck Off and Dies). The band's second effort titled Sine Metu, which means "without fear" in latin, is a much more aggressive and intricate take on the bands unique brand of punk rock.

The future looks very bright for the band in 2011 and beyond. The band will release a 7'' in May titled Without Fear and will release Sine Metu in summer 2011 both on legendary St. Louis label I Hate Punk Rock Records. Following the album's release, the band have plans to tour and continue to create music that both excites and inspires. Be on the lookout for Sink The Bismark in your town soon.
