Biography
What does it sound like? Is it rock? Can you call it rock when it has a horn section? Isn’t there a term in the English dictionary somewhere that can be used? It’s a definition that goes undefined. In the past years bands like Rocket From the Crypt and the Urge also encountered the same circumstances when carving their own niche into the musical wall. Not everybody fits into a genre so easily. How can one word portray such a diverse sound?
Hailing from Kansas City, MO, Six Percent has successfully combined the elements of rock, hip-hop, and punk to capture an intense and unique sound all it’s own.
With influences stretching across the board from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Hum, LTJ Bukem, Less Than Jake, and the Deftones, Six Percent has ended up somewhere, or…nowhere in between. Their shows are always diverse as they play with every style of band imaginable, from the Living End to P.O.D. “It’s definitely a good place to be,” states Joel Friday, Six Percent vocalist, “we have the opportunity a lot of bands don’t, and that’s the chance to reach out to every type of crowd.” Along with their music comes their live performance. Playing with high energy and intensity has always been an important element to the equation.
