Interesting thing, Bobby Prince once said that he composed E1M1 all by himself, he was just jamming around and intro riff came out. I guess it's semi-truth, since it's still sounds alot like No Remorse.

There is very interesting video interview, together with Kevin Schilder, where Prince talked about not having known all those metal bands before composing the music for Doom. There's just too much of Slayer, Metallica etc. flying around in those tracks for that to be true - too much for being a fantastic coincidence.

Yes, I don't think that he composed everything by himself. Furthermore, some tracks use the exact drum patterns taken from original songs: just listen to Shawn's Got The Shotgun intro and compare it to Slayer's South of Heaven - same drums. Or Waiting for Romero to Play is Pantera's This Love 1-2 octaves up. Also some unused Doom midis are almost carbon copy of Slayer, Alice In Chains and SOD. Anyway, I'll check the video, thanks!

@Tenome15 To say there is anything in this song's lyrics that equates to "Le evil nazi hurrr" is a pretty big stretch. Hanneman was known to have a fascination with Nazi Germany and included lots of stuff about the Nazis in his lyrics and also had an interest in Nazi military equipment and insignia and so forth; he never wrote anything that took a preachy stance on it and presented it all pretty matter-of-factly without being cringe-worthy and self-consciously edgy. Do you think Nazis have gotten a bum rap or something? You seem to be white knighting for them a little.

I agree. I was pointing out that Tenome15 seems to think the point of the song is that Nazis are bad and he seems to think Nazis are unfairly singled out for their atrocities.

One of the highlights of South of Heaven and one of the highlights in Slayer's overall discography.

For some reason I have always been able to memorize the lyrics from SLayer easier than any other band that I can think of.
