Biography
There are 2 bands named Slewfoot:
1) Slewfoot is a hardcore band from Barrie Ontario.
2) This is our band Slewfoot. We are a four piece new-school alternative metal project based out of El Cajon, Ca. Formed November of 2000, Our influences Range from System of a Down to Pink Floyd – each member of the band comes from a varied musical background. We play a very high-energy brand of rock, which is reflected in a dynamic stage show.
Slewfoot features Drew Espino on lead vocals, Jason Rice on guitars and keyboards, Aaron Spaulding on bass and Chris Pollock as our self proclaimed “percuussional scientist”. Drew is the band’s newcomer, having joined Slewfoot in late October 2002. Slewfoot had one singer before Drew, who parted with the band due to mutual creative differences. Prior to this, In January 2002 Slewfoot won a Battle of the Bands at the Epicentre put on by Sugarlight Productions-all, the night featured over 120 Slewfoot fans in attendance. Shortly thereafter the original singer left, leaving Slewfoot without a front man for almost nine months. After twenty vocalists fell through, Drew called on an ad placed in the San Diego Reader by the band. Both parties were immediately impressed with one another, and within a few short weeks and a couple more failed tryouts, Slew foot was finally complete.
Drew has had years of experience as a drummer as well as a DJ, spinning in some of San Diego’s top under ground clubs. Slewfoot is his first attempt at singing in a band, yet his songwriting skills and charismatic stage presence are already well developed. His vocal styling has drawn comparison to Lajon Whitherspoon of Sevendust and Mike Borden of Faith No More. Jason has had active band experience since the age of 12, playing alongside local hardcore acts such as Psychotic Waltz and Teabag. He has frequented several local death metal bands since beginning his musical career. His catchy Chorus riffs and metal-inspired picking style sits at the heart of Slewfoot’s unique sound. Aaron has been playing bass for over three years, and Slewfoot is his first band. His thumping, occasionally funky bass lines are the driving force behind the tight rhythm section. Chris has a strong punk drumming background, and as been playing since high school. His previous band experience includes Half Decent, among others. He list Frank Zappa as a major influence. Chris and Aaron also share a roots-reggae based side project as The Otherins.
