Crazy that people slated Figure Number Five for years, including the band and yet 4 of the top 10 tracks on here are from that album? felt like I was going crazy being a huge fan of that album since it released and no one else liked it.

I loved that shit when it was new. Rejection Role? Light the Torch? Departure Plan? That album rules. Sure it’s not NBC, it’s still incredible though

I think it's only because it was released after NBC and it was a bit softer. Tough act to follow and all.

Soilwork should change their name to Björn's Band since it's only him who's a constant member. It's like they change some members for each album.

The keyboardist has been in the band for 22 years. The Guitarist since 2008. Dirk (who left in 2016) only left because fucking Megadeth made him their drummer.

TBH both definitions are pretty basic and imprecise to describe what Soilwork is today, IMHO. They did MDM up to the 3rd or 4th album and ventured into Metalcore-related realms after that, but by the time they released "The Panic Broadcast" their sound was somewhat beyond the limitations of those genres.

RIP David Andersson! What a genius songwriter he was. I only love Soilwork albums with him.

The new album is not that bad on the first listen, although I don’t know if I liked any song from start to finish except for maybe Death, I Hear You Calling. The album itself feels like a middle ground between TNFO and heavier side of Soilwork, which is understandable given the main songwriters, however it is neither catchy as the former nor hard-hitting as the latter. Might give it another spin in the future and see if anything changes.

A Finnish critic gave Verkligheten 9/10 and Övergivenheten 7/10. I like both but I think I prefer Övergivenheten overall no matter how good songs Full Moon Shoals and Stahlfågel are.

I'm loving this new direction they are taking. More melodic but still heavy somehow...

I met Bjorn at Bloodstock last week. Asked him to produce Natural Born Chaos 20th Anniversary merch. Now we wait...

I wasn't big on the last few Soilwork releases (I did enjoy The Ride Majestic quite a bit tho) and I didn't expect nearly anything from the new album, but I'm like 3-4 songs in and so far I can't believe this is the same band that kept killing me with repetetive droning. Decent opener title track, excellent lighter and proggy Nous Sommes la Guerre, Electric Again which starts with blastbeats and has a "holy shit" kind of chorus and goddamn violin interludes, now there's an upbeat power balla-Guys stop, this is going too far, I am enjoying the 4th song in a row on a Soilwork record, this never happened before!

It's pretty fucking obvious we're not getting 20th anniversary Natural Born Chaos merch. Which really sucks. Probably my favourite melodeath album of all time. Just perfect all the way through.

One of the best Swedish melodic death metal bands! My favorite song by them is Possessing the Angels from The Chainheart Machine. I randomly downloaded that sometime in 2007 and it has been my favorite song since. Then I checked out the rest of the songs off The Chainheart Machine and then checked out other albums. Excellent stuff!

And it's even a double album. Only one in melodic death metal genre too I think.

You didn't like Atoma or Moment? Very great records. Obviously nothing on the Living Infinite or anything like that, but Atoma was incredible imo.

Ehh Atoma and Moment are far from DT's best material and mark a steady step down in form for the band (probably for the first time in their history). They're not bad, just derivative and mostly forgettable. Stanne's (and ex-In Flames guys) sideproject The Halo Effect is much better than most of what DT released in the past decade - And it pains me to say this.

I've been a huge fan of this band for ages but... nope. I think they have officially totally lost me. Wasn't huge on Verkligheten either, but... yeah, nah.

Yeah, sick heart rivers great. Just don’t list any of those songs in Soilwork’s top 20 or so.

Whisp of the Atlantic was a bit too prog for my taste, didn't really feel a whole lot like the Soilwork that became my favorite band from 2010-present. That being said, the rest of the EP was pretty dope, but their title track was not my style at all. Still a great musical performance as expected.

I'm with tindvall on this one, I hope this is a bit of a one-off. They can go back to sounding like their 2010's sound, because I genuinely don't wanna hear them venture off into this semi-atmospheric prog toned melodic metal, personally. They toyed with some progressive elements, to a healthy level, in Verkligheten and The Ride Majestic, but yeah, in my opinion, Whisp of the Atlantic is too heavy over into that progressive realm for my taste.

Yeah, I agree. I actually did like hearing a sixteen minute Soilwork song, but I feel like it's not where their strengths are at. 2010s Soilwork stood out through their ability to be infectiously catchy and energetic and write some truly incredible choruses, and I would prefer for them to continue that into 2020 rather than become yet another prog-melodeath band.

Isn't the line between Soilwork and The Night Flight Orchestra becoming a little bit (read: way) too blurry? Listened to Soilwork for 20+ years and TNFO for some time and appreciate them both aplenty for what they do respectively, but I have to say I'd like there to be a much more clear divide between the two in terms of writing, arrangements, sound, et al. I blame mr Andersson! :) #firstworldproblems

Looks like a new EP titled 'A Whisp of the Atlantic' is on the way \m/ I'd say this is the home for the recent drip feed singles. The latest Single that just dropped 'The Nothingness and the Devil' is an absolute banger! Didn't mind the others but i don't think any gripped me like this one. Love that outro.
