Biography

Sometimes Y is a few things:

1. A group from Madison, Wisconsin, who have released 2 full length albums to date: "One Fell Swoop" (1984) & "Be Happy" (2003). There was promise of 3 albums in 5 years, beginning with "Be Happy" in 2003 but as of 2008, there has been no follow through.

2. An alternative group from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who have released 2 full-length albums to date: "I Am" & "That's Not What I Heard".

3. Sometimes Y began, as most musical ventures do, as a dream. This, however, was an actual dream. Guitarist/drummer Joe Cook (of Lummi Island infamy) found himself in a neon sign-lit alleyway, where nearby people were visiting a night club. He sat down and listened to some ideas he had jotted down on his little blue 4-track, and very much liked what he heard. Not really remembering any note or rythm particulars, the real life Joe sat down next to his baby boy with an electric guitar and out popped the first four Sometimes Y songs. The next day he did it again and out came the next four. Soon afterward he put some drums to it and sent the recording to Matt Nelson, who lived and lives on Orcas Island. Matt played it for a bunch of people and they liked it. Months later, he had that same 4-track and laid down some vocals, but on only half of the songs.
