Biography
One-man-band is a phrase that generally conjures mental images of street performers of dubious lucidity, toting a washboard and clashing cymbals between their knees, but in the case of singer-songwriter-producer Martin MacDonald it simply means the wearing of many hats.
An album-in-thirty-days challenge in 2008 simultaneously marked both the beginning of Son of Sea and the end of Martin's previous solo effort The Westminsters. That challenge - a ten track album entitled Worms (although its existence is now officially denied) - bore a small amount of fruit that was placed aside for the next project…
The recently completed video EP The Dreaded Green Bag was born partly out of an obsession with super 8 cameras and partly to satisfy that moviemaking itch that we all experience (right?). What resulted was the best homemade filmmaking course imaginable, oh and a five-track EP of carefully tangled indie/folk music videos.
Once upon a time Martin dwelled in the humid subtropical city of Brisbane Australia but after several delayed attempts to leave finally moved to the metropolis known as London in 2011. It was there that he stumbled upon the truth about the definition of the word 'metropolis'. Apparently there is no definition. Since living in London, Martin has completed the Dreaded Green Bag project, made a few videos for other people, continued writing both on his own and with fellow travellers, worn out several pairs of shoes, and attended the filming of QI a few times. He's having fun. Back in Australia he filled his excess time running his small recording studio and playing in various bands including Andrew Morris, Danny Widdicombe, Kate Bradley, The Granite Lakes and… well we could go back further than that but it's not essential.
The Dreaded Green Bag video EP is out now on YouTube and the audio version available at most digital retailers.
