Biography
Neil Jackson, Jeff Dunegan, and Chris Goodman formed the trio upon the demise of previous bands in late 2005. With Neil's new songs inspired by the breakup of his band and resulting family conflict, the band had a strong catalog from the beginning. After playing just a few shows together, the band was invited to perform a track on Rocket 13's accompilation disk and a band name was needed. They finally decided to call themselves Steel Standing, because they were still standing strong, after all of the struggles, disappointments, and terminations of previous bands. The band’s first single released was “Fall Away,” and received enormous positive feedback. Not only was it featured on the Rocket 13 Compilation, but it was also placed in the indie film "Bird In a Glass House." The trio wrote many songs, fueled by previous experiences and created a raw, yet solid rock sound. They started playing at various venues in the Charlotte and surrounding area. After the success of their single "Fall Away" and huge fan support, the band decided to record an album. The band teamed up with producer Rob Tavaglione, at Catalyst Recording, and recorded a full length album called “The Road,” which was released in 2006. Wasting no time, Steel Standing’s second single “Black Star” reached the top of Clear Channel’s “NEW!” Unsigned Artist Alternative and Rock Charts, currently holding nearly one million plays. The band has since posted online CD sales, merchandise, and radio requests from all across the country. To promote their new CD, Steel Standing played at an immense amount of venues across North and South Carolina, building their fan base. In 2008 the band released a 3 song demo to help spread their growing sound. Steel Standing teamed up with Rob Tavaglione at Catalyst Recording again in 2010 to begin work on a new album. After months of work in the studio, the album was nearing completion. Their new single "Angel" caught the attention of Tylerboy Records. While recording the last album Neil Jackson, Jeff Dunegan, Chris Goodman, and Rob Tavaglione discussed bringing on another guitarist. Adam Floyd, a long time friend of the band was brought on to enhance Steel Standing’s sound.
Steel Standing has opened for National Acts such as: Jani Lane (Warrant), Stuck Mojo, 12 Stones and Adema. They were also booked with Stroke 9, Chevelle, and Finger Eleven. Along with many venues across the Carolinas and Georgia, Steel Standing has headlined several shows at Charlotte’s largest indoor venue, Amos’ South End, among many others. July 2011, Steel Standing signed with record label, TylerBoy Records. Steel Standing has written the theme song for an upcoming reality television show, dragSTAR, soon-to-be appearing on the Speed Channel. Steel Standing fans would tell you, “Don’t miss the next show,” but the real question is, why aren’t you already saying that?
