Biography
Formerly known as Deckmonkey, Steve is a 30-something DJ based in Bath in the South West of England. A relative latecomer to dance music (he didn't start listening to it or clubbing until he went to university in 1994 in Southampton, England), he initially started playing trance and upbeat funky and piano house but a penchant for Portishead, Orbital, Leftfield, Underworld, Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy and similar artists led him towards progressive house. DJs like Sasha, Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, Darren Emerson, Danny Rampling, John Digweed and Deep Dish encouraged more experimentation with melodic, tech and electro sub genres of progressive house and the resultant sound is an eclectic mixture of intelligent house and trance. New influences include Bear Golightly, Darin Epsilon, Jay Lumen, Mohamed Eshra, Zachary J Brooks, Garth Ivan and Raul Guerrero.
Steve has made the move to mixing and producing digitally which means that mixes are recorded and released much more frequently. This is reflected in his new series, The Somerset Experiments, of which episode 3 is currently in production and episode 2 is due fro broadcast on the Digitally Imported progressive channel as the guest mix on Bear Golightly's Alchemy Sessions on July 27th 2010. He also has some remix projects in the pipeline.
