TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb was born on an Easter Sunday. The parties and places involved tend to swing in the direction of the drummer's South Philadelphia basement yet these allegations remain unconfirmed.
Their music has been described as a rare blend of Whisky Blues, Bootstomp Folk and Gypsy Rock.
More specifically:
"Take equal parts Bob Dylan and the Kingsmen and throw in a little bit of the Band and you’ll get Philadelphia’s TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb." - Phrequency.com
"High energy music infused with an amalgam of folk/blues songs with gypsy beats and hollering and harmonica." -Chernobyl
Having released their debut EP 'The Hinterlands' in February of 2009 to a sold out crowd in Philadelphia's Tritone the trio has been making an impression on the ground as well as on the world wide webiverse.
"Philly buzz band TJ Kong & the Atomic Bomb just released their debut EP, Hinterlands… It lands somewhere between The Basement Tapes and Anodyne, with a ragged, lo-fi aesthetic and lyrics drenched in heartbreak and whiskey." -Pop Matters
" is a gifted storyteller, crafting tales of drifters, losers, and drunkards into four-minute epics…Martino’s sparse yet inventive rhythms give the songs lift and pep…All of it makes for an expansive and compelling debut, heralding a promising future for and his Bomb. With any luck, they’ll be getting their well-deserved due alongside Bon Iver and William Elliott Whitmore by year’s end." -Sputnik Music
