Biography
Originally from New Jersey, Tabitha began writing songs as a teen, teaching herself guitar, drums and keyboards, playing rock, pop and blues, and writing her own rock and blues influenced songs. At this point, says Tabitha, "I dabbled in many styles, even playing drums in a punk band."
After studying at New York University and City University in New York, she began experimenting with various styles of music, including blues, hard rock, jazz and soul music. New York's ethnic melting pot, with Latin rhythms, soul music, funk and hip hop rhythms had an impact on her music, as well.
While studying with Pulitzer Prize- winning composer David Del Tredici at City College in Harlem, Tabitha composed "Rites of Arda", "elf music" inspired by the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. During this time, she recorded a jazz CD, "Snowing in July" with friends from the New York jazz scene, including Jordan Young on drums and Paul Kendall on saxophone.
In 2003, Tabitha relocated to Worms, Germany, where she formed a rock band, Blue Spiral, a blues-rock group, Blue Delicious, and recorded a live jazz CD, "The Mannheim Project", which features Jazzapo.
Lately, the various influences have converged with her new CD, "Upside Down World". Playing keyboards, guitar and other instruments, the CD features an eclectic blend of instruments- ukelele, mandolin, classical guitar and organ- as well as stylistic influences from blues, jazz, beat, folk and more. Song themes such as love, war, death, politics, faith and social themes are met with a healthy sense of humor and irony, as Tabitha wryly sings, "Captain Kirk, beam me up now- there's nothing here for me!"
