Biography
Thanasis was born in Larisa, Greece, in 1983 and grew up in a family of traditional musicians. He studied composition in Thessaloniki at the department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia, Greece, with professors D. Terzakis and G. Kyriakakis. Meanwhile, he began his training in stage performance and music-theater with the teacher and director S. Karakantza. In 2010 he finished his master studies in composition at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under the professor W. Henderickx. He has collaborated either as a performer or a composer with the Nieuw Ensemble, the Atlas Ensemble, the Asko|Schönberg Ensemble, the National Theater of Greece, Muziektheater Transparant, Ensemble Genesis, Dissonart Ensemble and other important companies in Europe and abroad. Ηe has been a member of the artistic team of the Nieuw Ensemble (2011-14), while since 2011 he is the artistic coordinator of the Atlas Ensemble and the Composers’ Festival Amsterdam of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In 2010 and 2012 he was a nominee composer at the international Gaudeamus Music Week. In 2014 he founded together with a team of artists from various backgrounds the Amsterdam-based interdisciplinary platform I/O.
