Biography
The April Fishes are a San Francisco based ensemble including, but not limited to, Rupa Marya , Marcus Cohen , Ed Baskerville , Aaron Kierbel , Adrian Jost and Eric Perney . The songs are created by creating a catchy french chanson, adding some indian raga modes, then spicing it up with some jazz, folk, and tango elements.
Rupa sings in French, English, Spanish, and Hindi; her haunting voice can convey hope, despair, love, and loss even if one does not literally understand the lyrics. Her sparse arrangements can be very tender, but the band also likes to let loose and display their silliness with songs like "c'est pas d'lamour" and "I like to dance".
