Biography
What does it take to be an Armchair Captain? A sense of humour? Sure. A bit of something spicy? Certainly. An appreciation for avante-garde rollercoaster rides? Now that sounds more like it.
The band began on the quiet slopes of Snowdonia as a cover band including Spencer Lawrence, Joe Gordon-Potts, & Luke Lomax. Their first gig at The Greek in Bangor spawned a residency, and after a few months they were joined by Charlie Feasby, who added a much needed injection of indie-cool dorito to their (by now) fairly mature cheese. To put the icing on this questionable cake, Tom Evans arrived with a satchel full of energy and a shirt with no buttons.
In the summer of 2018 it was time to depart from North Wales and enter the thrumming pulse of Liverpool, with faces shiny and eyes aglow.
'Zest' happened. Described as "theatrical jazz", their citrus-inducing debut contained "a crafted journey of changing moods, of mind trips, head-banging ecstasy, of humour and joy" (Music Underground). And now the Captains are proud to present 'Marmalade Syndicate', their first improvised album.
Thrilling the crowd with their infectious energy and dazzling multi-instrumentalism, the Armchair Captains have gigged with numerous brilliant artists, including Samurai Kip, Hushtones & Irene & The Disappointments. They are known for mixing genres like a good bartender mixes a blood orange sazerac - with plenty of panache.
