Biography
The Art Therapists formed back in 2003, with Tom and Alister on guitars laying down the first tunes. They later added Michael on drums into the mix to open up the dynamic of their music. Their music is a folksy, rock fusion, but they dont want to entrench themselves too firmly in any one genre.
The Art Therapists forged their music playing competitions, fairs, and lounge room rehearsals, and have now emerged on the Adelaide music scene with a large repertoire of strong songs, spanning genres from folk through blues to rock. Tom plays guitar, with Alister on bass and Mike on the drums.
The band recorded their first demo in late 2004, earning some exposure, and netting some small shows. In 2005 they followed with a second demo focusing on the folk side of their music, however after a handful of shows early in the year, Tom and Alister took time out for travel. Late last year the band reunited, tuned up their instruments, switched on the amps, and picked up where they left off.
Armed with a book of new songs, a rejuvenated repertoire, and a renewed drive to play music, The Art Therapists scored gigs at small Adelaide venues, and began work on a new record. Whilst playing around Adelaide, The Art Therapists have amassed a small but loyal fan base. The sights of The Art Therapists are only set to rise, however, now The Art Therapists are keen to simply play music, build a base, and hone their craft.
