Biography
This quartet formed at Resurrection High School in Lansing, Michigan by Larry Palmiter, Bob Devetri, Tom Schmitt and Bob Coscarelli in 1957. Initially, they were called The Echoes. Roger Benham replaced Tom Schmitt after Schmitt went for military service. Bob Coscarelli dropped out in 1958 and was replaced by Bob Richards of Holt, MI. Richards and Coscarelli shifted back and forth in the early days of The Blue Echoes. They were always a quartet, but they had other members including Ron Good, Jim Black and Dave Smith. A DJ named 'Eric-o' Fersuth of WILS radio was interested in The Blue Echoes after they won a citywide talent contest. They recorded Debbie and It's Witchcraft at the Don Lee Studios. The songs were released by a record label called Bon Musique in 1959. Eric liked the song Debbie and thought it had potential to be a hit song. Debbie did go #1 in Mid-Michigan.
Cool Guitar was recorded at Eastlick Studios with backup vocal by The Fidelitones. Dave Smith joined as a saxophone player and he plays it on Rebel Train. They formed Alderay Records soon after. They switched to Ron Good on saxophone, added Jim Black on guitar and vocals, and hit went on tour. During that time they released O' Misery in the mid-1960's.
