Biography
The Burning Ponies is an indie rock band from the metro Detroit area. They get their name from the original founders of the band, Jim Byrne (lead vocals and guitar) and Giancarlo DiPonio (guitar). The band also includes Sean Varicalli (drums) and Jake King (bass), and the band has recently expanded its sound to include Jonathan Ross (keyboard) and Sarah Sadovsky (backup vocals). Their sound is a mix of lo-fi garage band rock, accessible pop rock melodies and intelligent and wryly playful lyrics.
They self-produced and released their first full-length album "Bishnoi" in January of 2013, which derives its name from an Indian spiritual movement of environmental conservation and social consciousness.
