Biography
If you've been longing for the love child of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, the Championship delivers. Singer Joe Crockett is the vocal doppelganger of Springsteen with a bit of Johnny Cash baritone thrown in to keep it dark. The band channels Cash through many a lyrical turn as well, particularly on "The Ballad of Maxwell Simmons," which seems to be about "dancing with the devil" and murder, in fairly morbid detail. But don't make the mistake of thinking the Championship is merely rehashing old fare; their streamlined approach, ranging from alt-country to folk to genuine, good-old fashioned rock 'n' roll, produces a modern and compelling take on the "Americana" sound. - Stefanie Ramp, Shepard-Express.com Cd Review - Dance Casador! Look for the new album later this year, tentatively titled "Midnight Golden". This forthcoming release features mandolin and steel guitar courtesy of new member, Tex Coyote. The Championship rise above thier influences and find a sound of their own that's a little more vintage, a little more rock n' roll.
