Biography

Music has been an integral part of worship in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also known as "The Mormons") since its organization in 1830.

One scripture in the LDS canon reads "For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads" (Doctrine and Covenants 25:12).

The current Church leadership has reiterated this teaching by writing, "Inspirational music is an essential part of our church meetings. The hymns invite the Spirit of the Lord, create a feeling of reverence, unify us as members , and provide a way for us to offer praises to the Lord. Some of the greatest sermons are preached by the singing of hymns." (Introduction to the Hymnal).

Tracks with this artist name include songs from "The Children's Songbook" (1989) and "Hymns" (1980) as well as the LDS editions of the scriptures (The Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, and King James Version of the Holy Bible) and content from The Mormon Channel. Content produced by the Church can be downloaded freely at the Church's audio website.
