A foggy blend of aural vistas, earthy rhythms, and enchanting lullabies from the northern woods that lie near the cusp between land and sea over yonder, The Family of Man came to be, out of nowhere, like a sudden whisper of a breeze or a mushroom sprouting from the ground.
It began as a camping trip in the Mendocino woods in July 1, 2010 bringing together their friendship, their hearts, some musical instruments, and a lot of good old revelry. What started out as fun jam sessions in a shipping container in the middle of a forest resulted in spontaneous and less spontaneous songs that became the first album called Inside the Box. Instantaneously evolving into a side project of Wilfred Galila and Dominic Mercurio, who previously formed the psychedelic rock band ElectroSonic Chamber, The Family of Man became their earthy and more subdued outlet of musical expression with Aliyah Cline as the third member.
Aptly named for the shared vision of the universality of music and the human experience, it was quite apparent, after the release of their second album, Heads in the Sky, that The Family of Man is a creative vehicle that transcends race, gender, and, class in the sharing of experiences through music.
A heady mix of folk, blues, and rock blended with a touch of everything in between, their music can be best described as whimsical, poignant, visceral, magical, somber, joyful, and downright real.
"The Way", which is their anticipated third album and most ambitious effort to date will be released on October 18th 2012.
