Biography
The Follies is an Utrecht improvisation trio consisting of Mark Versteegen, Martijn Buser and Jan den Besten. Some years ago Alexander Peterhans molested a couple of fingerpickin' guitar tracks by Mark. These electronic concoctions are no longer recognizable as such, but they sure do intrigue. In Februari 2008 Jan den Besten added himself to Martijn and Mark to 'finish' the five songs (that's what they are, between three and four-and-a-half minutes). For these they merely used voices and a variety of electronics and effects with Jan at the steering wheel. This first hour BMTXPRMNT was appreciated so greatly the gentlemen came up with a name for it: The Follies. And now there's a record with songs, titled Boy Portals. Pretty endurable for the ladies as well, for that matter. In the meantime The Follies shifted their musical development into next gear, though it's better to say shifted back, for them gents took Mississippi Delta Blues as a point of departure for their new course. What this will sound like can be beheld in a live/analogue setting; in a digital world you will have to settle for the free downloadable Boy Portals. Not to be sneezed at either.
