Biography
The GBU is a three piece roots rock band based out of New Jersey. Since the band's inception in 2009, they've released three independent albums of original material and have given a series of memorable concerts.
They have also launched their own internet radio station Back Street Radio to help promote themselves and like-minded artists.
Musically, they weave an eclectic mix of American styles (folk, blues, rock, jazz, country) into a rich tapestry of sound that supports their highly poetic and intelligent view on the modern conditions. Plus they are catchy as hell with a wicked sense of humor and a fistful of attitude. Their honesty and no-frills purity is almost shocking in these synthetic times.
Art Wright (right) - Guitar and vocals
Art was born in the crowd at the 67 Monterey Pop Festival: a premature birth caused by the sound of The Who smashing their instruments. Since then, he's been in a slew of hard rock/punkish bands including Snowblind, Exit 138, Worst Case Scenario and 68AD. GBU was conceived as an outlet for his more folkish and rootsy side.
Jeff Levine AKA Jeff The Drummer (center) - Drums and percussion
The dust bowl forced Jeff and his family to abandon their Iowa pickle farm in '35, Jeff tried to make his way out East as a jazz drummer, but everything sounded like country. Along the way, he met many famous musicians and honed his craft. Legend has it that he is the one that convinced Woody Guthrie not to go electric. Jeff is the heartbeat of GBU as well as owner and on-air personality of a highly popular internet radio station.
Ron Martin AKA Captain Ron (left) - Guitar, Bass and vocals
Ron was reunited with his cousin Art at a family reunion; their shared love of music and good whiskey resulted in Ron's recruitment to GBU. Ron was born and raised on an uncharted desert island after his family's ill fated yachting venture. There he learned to build his own guitars and amps from coconuts and palms. The good Captain performed with many bands through the 80's and 90's. He is also a prolific songwriter and composer.
